GoFundMe set up for burned haunted house

The Wicked Haunted Attraction's owner John Jarman shared a GoFundMe page following a fire that set the Wicked Haunted House ablaze Saturday night.

GREENE COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – A beloved Greene County haunted house is closed for the season following a fire Saturday night, but its employees are hoping to rise from the ashes.

The Wicked Haunted House has been a popular spot for Halloween thrill-seekers for the past seven years. Christopher Serles, a friend and coworker of the Wicked Haunted Attraction’s owner John Jarman, said it’s hard to see what’s left of the Frizzelle Farm Road property.

“It’s heartbreaking. I know it was his dream. John wanted this since he was a kid, and he’s been literally planning this out for years, since he was seven I think,” said Serles.

Jarman posted on The Wicked Haunted Attraction’s Facebook page this weekend to announce the house’s closure for the foreseeable future. He also shared a GoFundMe page to help replace props and costumes destroyed by the fire.

“People don’t realize that that stuff is not cheap. All the stuff we had was Hollywood quality, studio quality stuff, and it all is gone,” said Jarman.

Although the haunted house won’t be open this fall, Jarman is hoping to bring a bigger and scarier haunted house to eastern Carolina in the next few years.

“We’re gonna get it back up and running, so don’t give up on us. We’ll be back. It probably won’t be at that location, but the Wicked will be back in a couple of years. Absolutely,” said Jarman.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Officials say no one was inside the house when it happened, and no one was hurt.
