Gas leak repair will keep Greenville street closed this afternoon

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – Motorists on a busy Greenville street are being detoured thanks to a natural gas leak this afternoon.

Evans Street, next to the ECU Life Sciences Building, is closed in both directions.

It occurred around noon and Greenville Utilities says the leak has been stopped. A spokesman says a contractor working in the area hit the underground service line and ruptured it.

GUC says crews are now working on replacing the line and a valve. Because of the location, the street is expected to remain closed until around 6:00 p.m.
