JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – A funeral fund has been set up for an Eastern Carolina man killed earlier this week while walking along a busy highway.
The early morning crash on Tuesday killed Eric Fisher, of Jacksonville.
The crash happened on U.S. 17, near mile marker 106 which is near the split of Highway 24 around 1:45 a.m.
According to a GoFundMe account set up by the man’s sister, it says the 45-year-old Fisher had been struggling with mental illness for the past few years and just recently discovered he has Parkinson’s disease.
Police say a car, driven by Bobbie Haddock, of Hubert, was trying to merge into the right lane of the highway when the right corner of the vehicle struck Fisher in an unlit area of the highway.
Investigators say no charges will be filed against Haddock.
