GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – Coming off of last week’s highly successful Medicaid expansion enrollment event, Access East HealthAssist Uninsured Network is hosting another free sign-up event.

The network will hold today’s enrollment event at the JOY Community Center in Greenville from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. this afternoon.

The event offers free expert assistance to people newly eligible for state Medicaid health coverage to enroll in the program.

Financial counselors with the ECU Health Central Billing Office will be on hand to assist with enrollments.

Last week, officials say 17 people came in for enrollment help, with 10 ultimately signing up for Medicaid and one for Affordable Care Act (ACA) coverage.

Nearly 450,000 additional North Carolinians have already been able to sign up since program expansion, with roughly 1,000 people now joining daily, according to the network.

Appointments are available to guarantee being seen, though walk-ins are welcome.
