Free comic book day lands on Star Wars day

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – It’s a special day for the fans of the force and the oldest comic book store in the state is celebrating it with free comic books.

Footsteps coming to Nostalgia Newsstand do not seem to stop. The Free Comic Book Day coincides with Star Wars Day this year.

According to the store owner Juan Lopez, this was the most successful free comic book day as they welcomed 300 avid comic fans in the first two hours.

They come to look through famous comic books, featuring Marvel, Disney, and DC comics, and leave with boxes and stacks of comic books.

Lopez says this day is about promoting the industry, rather than selling the books.

Chris Kemple, the creator of Red Vengeance, had a passion for comic books and their drawings from a young age.

As a comic book lover and artist himself, he says the force is strong with the comic book celebration today.

“I think it’s just serendipity that Free Comic Book Day falls on the fourth this year so it’s also Star Wars Day so it’s a perfect marriage of both things,” Kemple said.

According to Lopez, over 10 thousand copies were ordered for the Free Comic Book Day.

Comic books that are left over will go to schools and restaurants to spread comic book joy around the East.

The event goes on until 6 p.m. with food trucks on Saturday
