Former Cherry Point Marine gets 15 years in prison for child porn guilty plea

HAVELOCK, N.C. (WITN) – A former Cherry Point Marine will spend the next 15 years behind bars following a guilty plea to having and sharing child porn.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina says that Jonathon Frew, 33, pled guilty back on August 17th of last year.

Court documents show that Frew was investigated by the Naval Criminal Investigative Services after Kik social media reported on five separate occasions one of its users had uploaded child porn.

The social media site reported the activity to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. They forwarded the report to NCIS after they learned the account and IP were linked to Frew who was an active-duty Marine at Cherry Point at the time.

Officials said that Frew was living in Havelock at the time.

A search warrant showed that on one day Frew uploaded 24 images and videos of child porn into a chat group. A search of his home and digital devices found 250 images and 30 videos of child porn, according to prosecutors.

Officials said the images include young children, infants, and toddlers as well as images depicting sadistic and masochistic conduct.
