Fleet Readiness Center East recognized for operations safety

CHERRY POINT, N.C. (WITN) – For the third time, Fleet Readiness Center East has received the award for operations safety for their category.

FRC East announced in a release they are the winners of the 2023 Chief of Naval Operations Shore Safety Award in the Large Industrial Activity category. This is the third time they have won.

Compliance and Quality Department Head Amy Morgan cited the depot’s win to their safety-focused initiative over the last two decades. The most recent development, the depot says, was under Safety and Occupational Health Division Director Angelo Owens who said that workplace injuries have decreased by 81% since 2021.

Commanding Officer Captain James Belmont says FRC East has an entire workforce of more than 4,000 people, so keeping everyone safe is a top priority.

“It’s an honor to be recognized by the Chief of Naval Operations for our depot’s safety efforts,” said Belmont. “Winning the Shore Safety Award emphasizes the quality of our safety management systems and is a testament to the dedication and hard work of everyone at the depot.

The depot says they will continue their eight-decade-long pursuit of keeping the base as efficient and safe as possible.
