Farmville man arrested after being released from prison; victim’s family mourns loss

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – Authorities say a Farmville man released from prison in September is back behind bars.

They say he helped dispose of a man’s body earlier this week who was reported missing by his family.

Now, the family of 23-year-old Zytorius Ruffin says they are grieving over his loss and are seeking justice.

“My grandson’s all the time about gun violence, about guns, about gangs, about everything, I talk to my grandsons, I talk to them, when they come here, I talk to them you know alot because the streets are dirty and cold,” says Frances Ruffin.

Raekwon Blount was arrested Thursday on a charge of accessory after the fact to murder after taking a missing person report on Wednesday evening for Ruffin.

Sheriff Paula Dance says they found Ruffin’s body with two gunshot wounds in a wooded area on King Farm Road by retracing Blount’s ankle monitor.

She says they later located Blount through the same monitor. He was taken to the Pitt County Jail where he is being held without bond.

Dance says they have a person of interest in the case and are waiting to speak to him.

“That person knows who he is, and that person we’ve had a phone conversation with, but we’d like to have that person come in and have a chat with,” says Dance.

Ruffin’s aunt, Tomecker Jones, says her nephew was a humble person and the family will wait for justice.

“He loved his pets, he loved his nieces and nephews, he loved his whole family, he was just a kind-hearted person, he would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it, we really loved Zytorious,” says Jones.

Blount pled guilty in 2016 to second-degree murder in the Hustle Mart murders outside of Farmville where three people were killed.

Sheriff Dance says anyone with information on Ruffin’s murder to contact the Pitt County Sheriff’s office.
