Evans Street in Greenville reopens after gas leak repair

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – A busy Greenville street was closed for most of the afternoon after a natural gas leak.

Evans Street, next to the ECU Life Sciences Building, was closed in both directions.

It occurred around noon and Greenville Utilities said the leak was quickly capped. A spokesman says a contractor working in the area hit the underground service line and ruptured it.

GUC said crews spent much of the afternoon working on replacing the line and a valve. The street has since reopened to all traffic.
