ENC Residents react to a boil water advisory

JAMESVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – A town in Eastern Carolina is under a boil water advisory after town officials say a main water line broke.

Jamesville is under a boil water advisory after a main water line broke on Highway 171, town officials announced this morning.

The advisory, issued around 11 a.m., urges residents to boil water for one minute before drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, or preparing food. Officials warned that the break might have introduced bacteria into the water system due to low or no pressure in the line.

“Yes, that’s very concerning,” said resident Jill Morrison.

Some residents were without water for much of the afternoon.

“I know it’s hot out here, but we gotta get it straight and hurry and get my water back on,” said resident Ella Brockhum.

A local restaurant reported losing water but had it restored by around 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Officials have not indicated how long the advisory will last and are urging residents to conserve any boiled water they have.
