ENC family activities to beat the heat

Many families turn to indoor activities during the summer heat.

PITT COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – Playgrounds, pools and sunshine are all great for children. But when we’re seeing feels-like temperatures in the triple digits in the east, some families may be rethinking their outdoor activities.

“It’s hot outside with all the heat and everything. He really loves it. He knows the giant slides. That’s his favorite part of being out here,” said parent Kriss Spencer.,

However, there are still ways for families to make memories, including spending time inside.

“With the heat and risk of sunburn and the equipment being too hot and just some general inconveniences of being outside, it’s nice to have a place that’s inside,” said the owner of Sprouts, Tiana Berryman.

Sprouts and Space Cadets are two indoor play areas for younger kids.

“We realize there was a need like this for something in the community. My husband and I have two young boys, and we realize there was nowhere for us to take them,” said Amy Thornburg, Space Cadets owner.

Sawyer’s Fun Park offers fun for older kids and adults with activities like laser tag, arcade games and a trampoline park.

“I’ve seen as young as a few months old to some as old as I am to some that are even older and have just as much fun,” said Alec Wocum, a Sawyer’s Fun Park crew member.

All three mentioned they see an uptick in sales during the summer, whether guests are beating the heat or just there to have fun.

According to the First Alert weather team, tomorrow’s heat shouldn’t be as severe as today’s, but some locations could still see a heat index near or over 105.
