DUPLIN COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – Multiple agencies are investigating the death of an elderly man in a house fire late Sunday night in Duplin County.

The fire broke out just before midnight on Clinic Circle Drive in Greenevers.

Firefighters found 88-year-old Morrell Chasten inside the home, and despite life-saving efforts, the man died.

The man’s body will undergo an autopsy and the cause of the fire is still under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office, the Duplin County Fire Marshal’s Office, and the ATF.

Firefighters from Greenevers, Teachey, Rose Hill, Wallace, and Northeast were called to battle the blaze.
