Edgecombe Co. woman celebrates lottery win, chooses lump sum

RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN) – A woman here in the east won the top prize of a lottery and chose to take home a lump sum.

Bernica Yelverton, of Princeville, has the top prize of Lucky For Life, according to the North Carolina Education Lottery. She bought her $2 ticket using Online Play.

Winners who match all five white balls have the option of $25,000 a year for the rest of their lives or a $390,000 lump sum. The lottery said Yelverton chose the lump sum and took home $278,851 after state and federal taxes.

The odds of winning this prize are 1 in 1.8 million.
