ECU students participate in litter cleanup

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) -Earth Week is underway and several students at East Carolina University are going the extra mile to keep the environment clean.

On Tuesday afternoon, Eco Pirates students came together for a litter cleanup at the Town Creek culvert on ECU’s campus.

Gloves, pickers, and bags were provided so everyone could clean up trash in and around the waterways.

ECU Sustainability Outreach Specialist Kim Fox says keeping the Earth clean isn’t always the most popular thing to do, but believes it’s vital. “You can see the trash disappearing as you go. You can see the bags of trash that pile up. You can see what you are preventing and this goes straight from downtown Greenville into the river so you’re keeping it out. I think that’s a phenomenal demonstration of the power a few people can have.”

ECU will be hosting different events as Earth Week continues.
