ECU S.H.O.E.S project returns to campus today

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – An annual effort to combat mental illness and depression is back at East Carolina University Thursday.

S.H.O.E.S, which stands for Students Honoring Other’s Everyday Struggles or Stories, was created in 2016 to help ECU students deal with challenging times.

Its goal is to show students they are not alone, and help and resources are available if they find themselves struggling.

Officials say today’s project on campus will feature 450 pairs of shoes collected by ECU and Hope Middle School students.

Each pair will include personal notes describing the mental health challenges the owners of the shoes faced.

Today’s event is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. near the cupola on the ECU Mall.
