GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – ECU’s football coach looks to be sticking around for the next several years after leading the Pirates to their first bowl appearance since 2014.
East Carolina University said that it has agreed to a contract that would see Mike Houston as head coach through the 2026 season.
ECU’s Board of Trustees signed off on the contract extension at a special meeting Thursday afternoon.
Under the new contract, Houston will be paid $2.3 million each year, not including incentive bonuses. Those bonuses could amount to hundreds of thousands of dollars if the football team were to be in the College Football Playoff championship series or play in a major bowl game.
There were reports that Houston was possibly being considered for head coaching jobs at Duke and Virginia Tech.
