ECU Health hosting flag-raising ceremony honoring organ donors & recipents

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – Rain or shine Wednesday morning ECU Health Medical Center will host “Pause to Give Life Event” honoring organ donors and recipients.

While only about 50 percent of adults in North Carolina are registered organ donors, 3,000 people are waiting for organ and tissue donations in North Carolina, and more than 100,000 are waiting for a donation across the country, according to the Greenville hospital.

As part of the event, ECU Health will raise the Donate Life Flag at 10:08 a.m. this morning. The flag-raising will be followed by a 30-second moment of silence to honor donors and their families, as well as those waiting and recipients who have received the gift life.

The specific start time of 10:08 a.m. recognizes that one donor can save eight lives.

ECU Health says due to today’s First Alert Weather Day, the Pause to Give Life ceremony will be held inside the ECU Health Medical Center chapel.

Carteret Health Care is also hosting a flag-raising ceremony at 10 a.m. outside the main lobby. Officials say parking is available off of 35th Street.WITN has reached out to see if the weather will be impacting the location.
