ECU baseball wins elimination game against Wake Forest

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – The Pirates are still alive in the NCAA regional baseball tournament.

A wild 9th inning saw the Pirates fall behind 6-4 to the Demon Deacons but they were able to battle back in the bottom off the inning to win 7-6. Luke Nowak delivered the walk-off single. Dixon Williams had a huge 3-run home run to give the Pirates the 4-1 lead. He also drove in the game-tying run before Nowak walked it off.

“I just hope that moment was as cool for y’all as it was for me cause y’all helped me get here,” says Dixon Williams, “Just looking around at all the fans and knowing I was sitting there one day it was unreal.”

Trey Yesavage also was brilliant in the game going 7 and a third innings and taking the no decision.

ECU advances to play VCU at noon on Sunday.

Evansville beat VCU 17-11 on Saturday night to advance to the championship round.

“This place is special. We don’t win that without the fans. I mean I am looking out there when the game starts and someone out there has a sign that says we believe,” says ECU head coach Cliff Godwin, “Man I am so thankful I get to coach at my alma mater and this place is packed and we need you all tomorrow cause our guys feed off it and I appreciate it.”
