Eastern Carolina fire department employee accused of embezzling more than $200,000

RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN) – A employee at an Eastern Carolina volunteer fire department is accused of pocketing hundreds of thousands of dollars from the non-profit.

Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey says Amanda Lamb, of Shawboro, was charged with embezzlement of funds by a public officer.

During her time as the fire department’s administrative assistant, Lamb is accused of stealing $205,305.85 by misappropriating their funds.

The Department of Insurance says the thefts happened between July 1, 2020 and November 1, 2022. “Volunteer firefighters dedicate so much of their time and effort to keeping their communities safe,” Causey said. “It’s disheartening to learn that money intended to protect life and property may have been siphoned off for personal use.”

The 46-year-old woman was indicted by a Currituck County grand jury on Wednesday and arrested the next day.

Lamb was released on a $97,000 secured bond and has a court date of April 22nd.
