Duplin County ambulance driver charged after crash with tractor-trailer

DUPLIN COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – An ambulance driver was charged after a crash this morning with a tractor-trailer in Duplin County.

The crash happened at the intersection of Highway 111 and Sheep Pasture Road in the Albertson area around 7:15 a.m.

Duplin County says their ambulance was taking a patient to the hospital without lights or siren when the accident happened.

The Highway Patrol says the county ambulance turned left in front of the tractor-trailer that was hauling a full load of chickens.

They say the big rig tried to stop, but couldn’t.

Two EMS workers were airlifted to ECU Health Medical Center, while the patient was also sent to the Greenville hospital.

The truck driver was sent to ECU Health Duplin Hospital, according to the Highway Patrol.

Troopers say everyone is expected to be okay, although the two EMS workers were seriously hurt.

The ambulance driver was charged with failure to yield.
