Driver charged after injuring deputies in chase and crash on NC-53 near Watha

PENDER COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – A driver has been charged after a chase resulted in a crash that injured two deputies on NC-53 near NC-50 and Watha on Tuesday, Feb. 27.

Per Trooper Hendrickson with N.C. State Highway Patrol, an unidentified driver drove away from her home while Onslow County Sheriff’s Office was attempting to service her warrants for unspecified charges at 2:45 p.m.

The driver then struck three deputy cars during the chase and ran off the road into a ditch to the right. Two of the deputies’ cars ran off the road to the left while one managed a controlled stop.

The driver has been charged with attempt to elude arrest and driving while impaired.

Two deputies were injured, and one deputy was reported seriously injured, as well as the driver. She is currently at Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Per DriveNC, the crash started at 3:01 p.m. and was cleared at around 5 p.m.
