Down power lines close Lenoir County Road

LENOIR COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – Lenoir County is facing road closures and power outages due to the winter weather.

Both directions of NC-58 are closed in Lenoir County near Heath Road due to road obstruction. Powerlines were lying on the ground leaving residents without power Saturday morning.

Duke customer, Susan Whaley, living on the road realized early this morning, her home didn’t have power.

“About 3:45 this morning this morning, we woke up for brief moment and saw the red flashing and got to see what the problem was and realized we didn’t have any power,” said Whaley.

The NCDOT says the road closure began at 2:23 A.M. Residents in Lenoir County had been out for six hours when WITN’s Alyssa Hefner spoke with them around 9 a.m.

Jerry Garren, another Duke Power customer, was told by the lineman working that the wind initially blew the pole down and then a car ran into it.

However, the Garren’s and Whaley’s say the outages will not take their holiday cheer.

“So we’re gonna make the best of it, and we have gas logs so we can stay warm and well… just make the best of when the family gets here and have fun,” said Whaley.

Not even the power outages.

“We’ll be fine. It’s just another day,” said Garren. “It’s not the worst thing that ever happened and there’s lots of people worse then we are, so, we are just blessed,” said Garren.
