District attorney seeking to move Planet Fitness murder case to Superior Court

On Friday, Greenville police said they arrested a teenager for the July 4th murder of Jayden Harrison.

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – Pitt County’s district attorney says they will ask a judge to move the Planet Fitness murder case to Superior Court.

On Friday, Greenville police announced they have arrested an 18-year-old man for the shooting death of 21-year-old Jayden Harrison outside of Planet Fitness last year.

Because the teenager was under 18 at the time of the murder, he is charged as a juvenile and his name hasn’t been released.

During an afternoon news conference, District Attorney Faris Dixon said they are seeking to transfer the case to Superior Court where the man will be tried as an adult.

At the news conference, Susan Harrison thanked everyone involved in solving her son’s murder. “I don’t know what else to do because I wanted to do my best to keep his memory alive. All I can say is that I’m so glad everybody, the love everybody has showed, when they tell me how good he’s been to them. That’s just overwhelming.”

Police say they have no motive in the shooting, but credit DNA evidence collected from the scene, along with another shooting in December 2022 in Winterville, with helping lead them to the suspect.

“The DNA is not enough, I want to make sure I explain that,” said Major K.Z. Thomas. “That’s not enough for us to go arrest someone. We have to go and connect the dots, we have to still interview, we still have to follow up with the evidence. It is a tool that we can build off of.”
