DHHS now says 10 children have died from flu in North Carolina

RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN) – There’s been another jump in the number of flu deaths in North Carolina, including three more children.

The state Department of Health and Human Services says there have been 26 more flu deaths since last Wednesday’s update.

The total deaths now stand at 232, compared to 196 for all of last season.

The report now shows 10 children have died from the flu, six of those between 5 and 17, and four under the age of 5.

For the first time this season, DHHS is reporting the deaths of two young adults, between the ages of 18 and 24.

Most of the deaths, 143, have been those 65 years or older.
