Deputies say drug suspect took off during traffic stop

EDGECOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – Deputies in one Eastern Carolina county are looking for a drug suspect after he took off during a traffic stop.

Edgecombe County deputies stopped a vehicle with Tequavius Hopkins inside on Tuesday on Neville Street outside of Princeville.

Deputies say they smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle and after a search, they found two handguns, a duffle bag with more than 12 ounces of marijuana inside, and $62,500 in cash.

Hopkins is a known felon and can’t possess a firearm, deputies say. When they tried to arrest him he ran from them and hasn’t been found.

Hopkins is wanted on two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon, felony possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to sell or distribute, and resisting a public officer.
