Deputies release photos of man wanted in Lenoir County business shooting

Deputies say the shooting happened shortly after 9:00 a.m. at Brown's Plants & Seeds on Highway 258 outside of Kinston.

LENOIR COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – Deputies in one Eastern Carolina county say they’re looking for a gunman after a man was shot during an attempted robbery this morning.

Lenoir County deputies say the shooting happened around 9:15 a.m. at Brown’s Plants & Seeds on Highway 258 North, just outside of Kinston. Originally, deputies say the shooting occurred at Brown’s Auto Sales, which is owned by the same people and is next door.

Deputies say the gunman wore a surgical mask and left in a light blue or gray Ford SUV heading north on Highway 258 toward Greene County.

The gunman is considered armed and dangerous. They released surveillance photos of the man and his vehicle late this morning.

Sheriff Jackie Rogers says during the attempted robbery of the business a fight broke out and the worker was shot.

The victim was shot in the hand and taken to the hospital for his injuries. Deputies say his condition is not known.
