DEPUTIES: Man arrested after driving 130 mph in Tarboro

Weatherbee was placed on a 48-hour hold due to a pre-trial release violation.

TARBORO, N.C. (WITN) – A man is in custody after a high-speed chase with law enforcement on Friday in Tarboro.

According to the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office, Sergeant Sharpe attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding on US 258 South when it failed to stop.

Deputies say the driver turned into the Walmart parking lot, returned to the highway, cut off his headlights and continued south towards Saralee Road.

NCSHP assisted as the vehicle reached speeds of 130 miles per hour when a pit maneuver was performed that ended the chase.

Authorities say Rontrell Weatherbee faces a list of charges including speeding, felony flee to elude, reckless driving and damage to personnel property.

They say Weatherbee was placed on a 48-hour hold due to a pre-trial release violation.
