DEPUTIES: Gun found in car on school campus after fight between two parents

PITT COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – A fight outside of a school in the east involving two parents and a juvenile prompted a lockdown at the school and the discovery of a gun in the vehicle of one of the parents.

According to deputies with the Pitt County Sheriff’s office, 45-year-old Sharon Escamilla is charged with possession of a firearm on educational property, carrying a concealed weapon, and simple assault.

Deputies say that the verbal altercation outside of Ayden-Grifton High School started just after noon and escalated into a fight. The school resource officer intervened while other deputies and police responded.

Authorities did not say what prompted the fight. Escamilla was taken to the Pitt County detention center and released after posting a $10,000 secured bond. A juvenile petition will be filed for simple assault against the child that was involved.
