DEPUTIES: Father & son caught ripping off the railroad

BEAUFORT COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – Additional charges are expected in a case of a father and son arrested for stealing railroad property.

Beaufort County deputies have charged James Garolds, Jr., 55, and his 33-year-old son, James Garolds, III with felony larceny.

During January, deputies say they had two reports of people stealing metal from property used by a railroad construction contractor off Highway 306 outside of Aurora.

After getting a call about a suspicious vehicle last week, deputies say they caught the two loading steel railroad plates onto a utility trailer in the middle of the night.

The father and son duo from Ernul were jailed on $3,000 secured bonds.
