Deputies arrest Pasquotank County man after deeming him danger to community

PASQUOTANK COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – A man is facing several charges after deputies say his reckless use of guns deemed him a danger to the community.

The Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office said that Randall Hewitt was arrested around 10 a.m. in the 100 block of Northbanks Road near Elizabeth City.

The arrest is the result of what deputies said were instances since February when Hewitt would fire a gun recklessly on his property. Deputies say the actions would often send children playing the area running into their homes. In addition, deputies say Hewitt also made threatening statements like, “they were lucky, that he would kill them at the Coast Guard Base just like he did to the president.”

Deputies obtained a warrant for misdemeanor reckless discharge of a firearm against Hewitt.

On March 22, deputies stopped Hewitt in his pickup truck where he was told of the warrant for his arrest. Deputies say Hewitt took off in his truck. They did not chase him due to the reckless driving and speed they say Hewitt was traveling at.

Deputies obtained another warrant, this time for felony flee to elude with motor vehicle.

Hewitt was eventually deemed to be a danger to the community due to what deputies say was the totality of previous incidents and information reported to law enforcement.

Hewitt’s home was surveilled from March 22 to March 28th. During this time, deputies said the man was seen only one time sitting on his front porch holding an AR-15 style rifle “as if he was waiting for law enforcement to respond.”

An operation was planned and launched Thursday that saw Hewitt taken into custody safely.

Hewitt was taken to Sentara Albemarle Medical Center for evaluation. After he was released, he was taken to the sheriff’s office where he was served the outstanding warrant and taken before a judge.

Hewitt was also charged with felony possession with intent to sell deliver marijuana, felony flee to elude with motor vehicle, and felony matain dwelling for the purpose of selling a controlled substance.

A search warrant on Hewitt’s home saw these items seized:

One DPMS 5.56 AR 15, one Remington 870 Shotgun, one Glock 22 pistol, one Glock 27 pistol, one Glock 42 pistol, nine fully loaded AR15 magazines, four fully loaded Glock magazines, one fully loaded AR15 drum magazines, one fully loaded Glock drum magazines, twenty-five boxes of assorted ammunition and one pound of marijuana.

Hewitt is being held in the Albemarle District Jail under a $250,000 secured bond.
