DEPUTIES: 15-year-old hits Juvenile Services building after 110 mph chase

KINSTON, N.C. (WITN) – A high-speed chase with an underage driver ended in an appropriate place — the Juvenile Services building in downtown Kinston.

Lenoir County deputies say they clocked the 15-year-old driver’s vehicle at 110 miles per hour.

The chase started around 3:00 a.m. Saturday on Highway 11 near Jackson Heights. Deputies say the boy turned off the headlights and tried to outrun the deputy.

The teen ran through stoplights at Skinner’s Bypass, Herritage Street, and Queen Street.

Deputies say the boy lost control, ran off the road, and hit the Juvenile Services building, which is next door to the Kinston Police Department.

He was caught by the deputy behind the police department and he wasn’t hurt, according to a press release.

Deputies wanted the teen placed in secure custody, but say Juvenile Services decided to release him to his parents.
