Debby cancels National Night Out events in Eastern Carolina

Many locations have either postponed or canceled their activities.

MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. (WITN) – The threat of Hurricane Debby bringing heavy rains to Eastern Carolina is canceling National Night Out activities on Tuesday.

With rain from the storm expected to drift into our area early Tuesday, some locations are postponing or even canceling the yearly policing outreach event.

  • Morehead City said its National Night Out at Carteret Community College is being postponed. No new date has been set.
  • Goldsboro police said its activities for Tuesday night have been canceled. Instead, the police department invites people to visit them at Freedom Fest on September 7th.
  • Jacksonville’s National Night Out has been moved to October 1st.
  • New Bern police say the possibility of bad weather has also postponed its events Tuesday night. The new date is October 1st.
  • Kill Devil Hills police announced this morning that they too are canceling National Night Out on Tuesday.
  • Elizabeth City’s National Night Out has been moved to Tuesday, August 13th.
