Controlled burns in Croatan National Forest’s Jones & Carteret Co. today

CARTERET COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – Two controlled burns, planned for Thursday, are affecting two Eastern Carolina counties that are home to the Croatan National Forest Thursday.

The U.S. Forest Service is planning to start controlled burns in the Croatan National Forest today in Carteret and Jones Counties.

Officials say about 1,282 acres off of Hunters Creek Road near Kuhns in Carteret County will be burned.

In Jones County, forest officials say roughly 445 acres off Holston Hunter Road near Kuhns will be burned.

The Forest Service says a helicopter will be used to start both burns and drones are not allowed in the area during the burning for firefighter safety.
