Congressman Greg Murphy says he has tumor at base of skull

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WITN) – An Eastern Carolina congressman says he has a tumor at the base of his skull.

Rep. Greg Murphy, who is also a Greenville physician, said on Tuesday that after a series of tests and scans, he has been diagnosed with a pituitary macroadenoma.

“It is thought to be a benign tumor, however, given its size and location, and its subsequent ability to affect vital structures in the brain, I am scheduled to have it surgically removed,” said Murphy.

The 3rd District Republican said his prognosis is excellent, and he hopes to be back to work full-time soon.

Murphy has been in Congress since 2019, and before that, he served for four years in the North Carolina House of Representatives.
