CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – On Friday the city of Charlotte, family, friends and fellow law-enforcement officers from all over the United States gathered to honor and remember fallen Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Officer Joshua Eyer at his funeral.

Eyer was one of four men who lost their lives in the line of duty on Monday in east Charlotte. They were attempting to serve a warrant when the suspect opened fire, killing them and injuring four more.

Born in New Jersey, Eyer was just 31 years old. Before his service with CMPD, he spent 12 years with the NC Army National Guard and was deployed twice. He joined CMPD in 2017 and served in the North Tryon Division.

He married his wife, Ashley, that same year. The couple has a 3-year-old son named Andrew.

Prior to the 10 a.m. funeral at First Baptist Church in Uptown, Officer Eyer was escorted from CMPD headquarters to First Baptist Church on a horse-drawn caisson.

Following the service, he was be escorted to Sharon Memorial Park by a vehicle procession, which was for law enforcement only, with many officers from several agencies participating. CMPD is encouraging the community to line the route to show support.
