Cold case murder suspect given no bond during court appearance

CRAVEN COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – A Craven County man arrested in a cold case murder was given no bond by a judge this morning.

Craven County deputies charged Gerard Brimmer, Jr. with the murder of Leon Carmon.

The 25-year-old man’s body was found on Woodrow McCoy Road in the rear of his vehicle on July 27th, 2018. The man had been shot.

Throughout the years, investigators have stayed in contact with Carmon’s family, giving them updates and seeking additional information.

Deputies say investigators recently searched a suspect’s home and then conducted additional interviews.

District Attorney Scott Thomas says Brimmer was an initial suspect in the murder but there was not enough evidence at that time to bring charges.

Sheriff Chip Hughes says their investigation is ongoing and there may be more arrests in the case.
