NEW BERN, N.C. (WITN) – An Eastern Carolina city is offering free resources to help those prepping for the weather effects of Tropical Storm Debby.
The City of New Bern says two loads of sand are available first-come-first-serve anyone wishing to fill sandbags. The sand is only available until it’s gone, according to city officials.
City officials say the sand is available now.
Residents must bring their own bags and shovels. The sand deliveries will be available at Henderson Park at 901 Chapman Street and Seth West Parrott Park behind Kidsville at 1225 Pine Tree Drive this morning.
The city says it expects stormwater drainageways may become overwhelmed along city streets and in low-lying areas that commonly flood during rainfall events. They list areas including, but not limited to: Cypress Street at George Street, Cedar Street at Pavie Avenue, Murray Street, Pollock Street at Princess Street, Change Street, Linden Street, portions of Hazel & Washington streets, Dartmouth Lane, Princeton Lane, and the traffic circle at Broad and East Front streets.
