City in the east welcomes collegiate team, Jacksonville Ospreys

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – Baseball fans have another team to cheer on in the east: the Jacksonville Ospreys, at Jack Amyette Ball Park.

The Jacksonville Ospreys are a collegiate baseball team with players nationwide. This year marks the team’s debut, with their first opening game scheduled for this weekend.

“I was excited to play with a bunch of new guys,” said Kyle McConsachie, a baseball player on the team. “Being part of a team that means something to the city is special.”

The stands at the Jack Amyette Ball Park will be filled with fans and families. One of the players Matthew Lovitt, grew up in the area and is excited to play close to home.

“I played middle school baseball on this field,” said Lovitt. “It’s close to home, so being able to represent Jacksonville, especially when it comes to a baseball team, means the world to me.”

The team’s location is also significant. Eli Patino and his wife, Arlin, believe the field is a perfect spot.

“The city suggested this place because it was ready to be occupied,” said Eli Patino.

The Patinos and the players hope to bring the community together, one game at a time.

“I hope we can get out here,” said Jacksonville Ospreys baseball player Aiden Payne. “Put a good product on the field for them, and really give them something back.”

The schedule for the team can be found here.
