BEAUFORT COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – A teenager who was murdered in Chowan County was a student at Elizabeth City State University.
Jordan Thomas, 29, has been charged with killing 19-year-old Amarriah Smith.
The Edenton man was first charged with concealing the death of a person and larceny of a motor vehicle in Beaufort County. A murder warrant was then obtained in Chowan County.
The victim is believed to be Smith, but authorities said yesterday that was pending a positive identification.
ECSU says Smith was a freshman from Nashville and she was an elementary education major. “Her untimely death, which occurred off campus, has left our community saddened,” said ECSU Chancellor Dr. Karrie Dixon. “Please keep Amarriah’s family and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
The SBI said the arrest comes after a joint investigation by them, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office, and the Chowan County Sheriff’s Office.
