HAVELOCK, N.C. (WITN) – The Marine Corps has named Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point the 2024 Marine Corps Air Station of the Year.
According to officials at Cherry Point, the awards recognize outstanding achievements of the Corps’ top-performing Marines, Civilian Marines, and units in the Installations and Logistics community.
This is the first year the Marine Corps Air Station of the Year category was included in the annual awards.
“This award is a testament to the teamwork and relationships between MCAS Cherry Point, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, Naval Health Clinic, Fleet Readiness Center East, and the community,” said Col. Brendan Burks, MCAS Cherry Point commanding officer. “I’m proud to be a part of this team and the hard work and dedication by all our Marine, Sailors, civilians, family members, and community partners for the betterment of our nation and their commitment to America’s Air Station and our country.”
Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point was commissioned in 1942 and is the world’s largest Marine Corps air station, occupying more than 29,000 acres in eastern North Carolina.
The Marine Corps has 23 active Marine Corps Air Stations.
