NEW BERN, N.C. (WITN) – The Chelsea restaurant in downtown New Bern will reopen Saturday after closing Friday to clean up and make repairs following a fire Thursday night.
The restaurant says it will reopen at 11:00 a.m.
There were no injuries in the fire.
The city says it was caused when a gas line became disconnected from a kitchen appliance and ignited.
The sprinkler system contained the fire until crews arrived.
The city says damage to the kitchen was minimal.
A popular downtown New Bern restaurant was damaged by fire Thursday night.
New Bern Fire-Rescue was called to the Chelsea Restaurant on Middle Street just before 9:00 p.m. The building’s sprinkler system contained the fire until fire crews arrived on the scene.
Two main streets, Broad Street and Middle Street, had to be shut down because of emergency response crews.
The city says the cause of the fire was unintentional and there were no injuries to restaurant staff or fire crews.
There’s no word on whether the Chelsea will be able to open today, but the fire department says there was significant water damage to the building.
