Cause of Greenville house fire that devastated family of five “undetermined”

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – The cause of a house fire Thursday afternoon here in the East that devastated a family of five who lived in the home has been ruled undetermined, according to Greenville Fire/Rescue Battalion Chief Bryant Beddard.

Beddard told WITN that crews were called around 4:51 p.m. to 405 Arthur Street in Greenville regarding a house that had caught fire.

Terrence and April Hooks lived in the home along with their 15-year-old, 16-year-old, and 20-year-old. According to Terrence, everyone in the home was either in their bedrooms or living rooms watching TV when suddenly Terrence heard frantic knocking on the front door. It turned out to be a neighbor letting them know the back of their home was on fire.

“So we ran out of the house and went behind the house and we saw smoke it was in a blaze, it was just blazing everywhere so we ran back in and called 911 and got everyone out of the house,” Hooks said.

According to officials, the family has been in contact with the Red Cross for assistance.
