CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Arrest made in Craven County break-ins

CRAVEN COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – A Craven County man is facing charges after deputies say he was caught on camera breaking into cars and stealing things out of them.

According to deputies with the Craven County Sheriff’s Office, investigators had been looking into several calls about cars being broken into in the Springs Garden Road area and having things stolen out of them.

Deputies say that they went to the area on Monday around 4:30 a.m. after getting a call about a suspicious person on a home security camera. When deputies arrived they said they found 42-year-old Serigo Scott of New Bern. According to deputies, no actual crimes had been reported so Scott was photographed and released.

At 8;30 a.m., deputies say that they returned to the Spring Garden Road area after getting several calls about multiple cars being broken into overnight.

According to deputies, several security systems at home that cars were broken into had recorded Scott breaking into numerous cars and stealing things from them.

Deputies arrested Scott and charged him with three counts of felony breaking and entering a motor vehicle, two counts of felony conspiracy, and two counts of misdemeanor larceny.

Scott was taken to the Craven County Jail and was given a $150,000 secured bond.

Deputies say that they are still investigating the break-ins and that they expect to file more charges.
