CARTERET COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – Another Eastern Carolina road is shut down thanks to a washout.
Mill Creek Road in Carteret County is blocked off just east of the volunteer fire department.
The fire department says while the road looks okay, it is completely washed out underneath the pavement.
It’s warning people not to move the road closure signs or drive through the area.
The Department of Transportation says heavy rains caused the pipe underneath the highway to fail, causing the washout.
Because there are utilities involved, the DOT doesn’t have a timeline yet for when the new pipe can be installed.
Dunn Family Road in Kinston is also shut down after heavy rains caused a big sinkhole on the highway. The road will be closed for two weeks for repairs.
