Carteret County man wins over $100,000 on favorite scratch-off game

RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN) – The North Carolina Education Lottery says an ENC man won over $100,000 from his favorite scratch-off game.

Officials say Charlie Crooms, of Beaufort, says a love of crossword puzzles scratches-offs to a $150,000 lottery win.

Crooms bought his lucky $5 Power Cashword ticket from the Speedway on Live Oak Street in Beaufort.

Crooms said he wants to celebrate his big win with his family. He took home $107,251 after required tax withholdings.

“Those are the only games I play,” he said. “I always liked the crosswords because they’re just fun.”
