CarolinaEast Health System reinstates mask requirement

NEW BERN, N.C. (WITN) – One healthcare provider is bringing back the requirement that all visitors and staff must wear masks in their facility.

CarolinaEast Health System announced Wednesday that effective immediately masks are required in all clinical and/or patient-facing areas at CarolinaEast Medical Center.

Officials say that the requirement is being put into place due to the growing spread of respiratory illnesses in the community and increased hospitalizations.

CarolinaEast said that masks will be provided for any patient, visitors, or staff who need them.

The mask requirement is in addition to visitor limitations that were put in place on January 4th limiting the number to two visitors at a time per patient during visiting hours. Visitors must be at least 12 or older.

Officials said the requirements are in place until further notice.
