Car crashes, hangs from 6th floor of Uptown parking garage

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – A car crashed through an Uptown parking deck several stories above the street below on Thursday morning.

Charlotte Fire first reported the wreck at 9:40 a.m., and North Church and West Sixth Streets’ intersection was closed for hours.

Fire officials say the car hung from the sixth floor nearly 45 minutes while firefighters worked “tirelessly“ to stabilize it.

Pictures from the scene show officers looking up toward the dramatic collision as they monitored traffic.

Nobody was inside the vehicle when it went through the side of the parking deck, and it‘s unclear how it punched through the outer wall.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is handling the investigation.
