Cape Hatteras starts Adopt-A-Beach program

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) -You can now adopt part of a popular Eastern Carolina beach to help keep it clean.

The Cape Hatteras National Seashore is introducing Adopt-a-Beach, in an effort to maintain clean, safe, and pristine beaches along its 75-mile stretch.

The Seashore is now inviting organized groups to adopt sections of the beach, starting with 18 areas primarily focused on off-road vehicle routes and islands.

Each section spans about two miles.

Cape Hatteras says groups will commit to four cleanups annually and fulfill reporting requirements.

Upon their first cleanup, they receive recognition via signage at their adopted area’s entry point.
