BUILD Project closes Intersection in Greenville

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) -Drivers are expected to detour around Greenville streets as construction workers continue with a project.

The intersection on West Fifth Street and Vance Street will be closed on Monday, June 3rd, as part of the BUILD Project, and remain closed for seven weeks.

The $42 million project will create four greenway and sidewalk projects and three streetscapes.

At West Fifth Street, the city will install wider sidewalks, brick crosswalks, site furnishings, and street trees.

According to the Build Project website, the construction on West Fifth Street is funded by a federal grant and the city with one goal: to enhance connectivity between the downtown area, the university, and the medical community.

Drivers will detour onto Davis Street, West Fourth Street, and South Pitt Street.

They are encouraged to take the 10th Street Connector via West 14th Avenue and Evans Street to avoid construction.

Businesses in the area will remain open to customers.
