Blue Knights ride through ENC to honor fallen police officers

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) -An annual event happened in the East on Saturday to honor police officers who have passed away.

The Blue Knights NC rode together in Eastern Carolina for their annual Officer Down Memorial Ride.

Felix Monterrosa, the President of the Blue Knights, explained why this year’s ride is extra special.

“It’s a special one because we had our past president Bud Overby. We are dedicating this ride to him and he passed away back in August of 2023. So. you know it’s a special one because as vice president, I had to fill his spot and again we are here to remember those who had fallen” says Monterrosa.

The organization was founded 50 years ago by a group of police officers who shared a love for riding motorcycles.

Patrick O’callaghan has been participating for three years and says he continues to come back because of the camaraderie.

“It’s great because everyone is riding together, we talk, and we have the intercom systems. We get together after lunch and it’s just a big brotherhood and that’s all it is, it really is” says O’callaghan.

The officers say they ride with pride during the journey to honor the fallen officers who served before them.
